Art Nouveau/ Arts & Crafts
1865-1919: The Art Nouveau movement used various
enamels, including plique-à-jour, fantastic and sinuous
forms and non-traditional gemstones to create this new
art. Revival jewelry with its “fantasy” designs was the
precursor to Art Nouveau and “revived” such artistic
movements as the Gothic, Egyptian and Mythological.
Arts and Crafts jewelry, with its emphasis on
“handmade” techniques, started in England with John
Ruskin and reached its zenith with Louis Comfort
Tiffany in America.
